Getting to know your avocado
The best way to select an avocado is by colour.
Below are details on the different varieties found in New Zealand:
Hass (rhymes with Pass): Medium sized, oval shaped. Has thick, pebbly green skin that darkens as it ripens. The Hass is the most common avocado grown in New Zealand.
Availability: August - May. Supply is most plentiful from October to March.
Reed: Large and round with thick, pebbly green skin. The skin remains green as fruit ripens.
Availability: February - June.
