After passing a basic training course and working in a 'buddy system' with an accredited monitor for a season to gain practical experience, the monitor becomes accredited and is awarded a certificate.
The monitor is required to maintain proficiency by attending and passing a refresher course the following year and after that at least every third year. Eyesight certificates remain valid for 5 years from the date of the examination.
