Avocados and Babies

The avocado's smooth, creamy consistency makes it one of the first fresh fruits a baby can enjoy. Sodium– and cholesterol– free, avocados contain valuable nutrients including folate. Per serving, avocados have 3.5 grams of unsaturated fats, which are known to be important for normal growth and development of the central nervous system and brain.

Avocados during pregnancy

A healthy diet will give your baby a better start in life by providing the essential nutrients to grow and develop normally. Avocados can be part of a healthy diet for both pregnant and nursing mums.

Sodium- and cholesterol-free, with monounsaturated fats, avocados also have life's essential vitamins and minerals and are a good source of folate.

Preparing Avocado Baby Food

Keep all tools and work spaces spotlessly clean, washing with hot, soapy water and rinsing in hot water. Wash fruit thoroughly before peeling. Avocados may be mashed and served in a variety of ways. They do not require cooking.

Use a blender or food processor to speed preparation. Add formula, juice or cooking water to thin the food. Begin with a thin, smooth, easy-to-swallow puree and as baby matures the consistency can become thicker.
