We are looking for a passionate communications professional to champion the
communications strategy of New Zealand’s third largest fresh fruit export
industry.
Reporting
directly to the CEO, you will be responsible for the delivery of key
communications for the Avocado Industry Council including the annual report and
quarterly Avoscene Journal. You will also manage
projects integral to the 2012-13 domestic promotions strategy.
Ideally you will have the following attributes:
- A tertiary qualification in communications or experience in this area;
- Project or event management experience;
- Advanced writing, editorial and creative skills;
- Exceptional communication and relationship building skills;
- Web site content management experience;
- Be a hands on team player.

Here is your opportunity to be involved in an industry that produces the most nutritionally complete fruit in the world.
Avocados are New Zealand’s third largest fresh fruit export - generating an FOB return of $65m last season. The industry body - Avocado Industry Council (AIC), is tasked with developing and implementing the strategy for the NZ avocado industry which comprises of 1,600 growers, 23 pack houses and 11 exporters. The industry has a strong growth strategy and is export focussed.
We are seeking a graduate in horticulture or science to assist with the quality management and AvoGreen® programmes in the avocado industry.
The role involves: Day to day management of the industry quality programme including liaison with packers and audit staff; Management and running of the AvoGreen programme; Residue testing programme; Management and running of the electronic spray diary programme.
Good communication and people skills are essential as is the ability to function within a team environment. The ability to relate to a wide cross section of the industry, including growers and packer staff is essential.

We are seeking an enthusiastic graduate, with a passion for plants. This is a perfect opportunity for you to play a part in the thriving and dynamic avocado industry.
This position requires a relevant horticulture or science degree.
The role involves a mixture of field work and laboratory assessment as part of major trials: Field work includes trial layout, application of treatments, sampling and measurements in orchards; Fruit assessment and data entry.
Excellent excel and word ability, good communication skills and the ability to relate across the industry are required. Previous horticulture experience would be an advantage.
