Minister Congratulates Industry

The Hon. David Carter, Minister of Agriculture, Biosecurity and Forestry congratulated the avocado industry at an event held in Wellington last Thursday (29 October 2009) to celebrate the Declaration of Country of Freedom from Avocado Sunblotch Viroid.

The Minister was impressed at the positive attitude the industry has about itself and expressed that some other primary industries in New Zealand should take a leaf out of the avocado industry's book.

The event acknowledged the close collaboration of the avocado industry with MAF Biosecurity New Zealand on the ASBVd project - a working relationship which is a good model for other industries embarking on biosecurity projects.

Also in atttendance at the event was Simon Bridges MP for Tauranga and the Honourable Tony Ryall MP for the Bay of Plenty (Minister of Health and State Services).
